HM goes to Stade Français – It is like a Dad’s Army reunion!

Heyneke Meyer has been appointed coach of Stade Français in Paris.

Unemployed since the end of 2015, Meyer will be looking forward to a reunion with a number of his Dad’s Army squad from the 2015 World Cup campaign as he will again coach the likes of Morne Steyn, Gurthro Steenkamp, and Willem Alberts.

A déjà vu moment then?

Stade have been looking for a head coach since New Zealander Greg Cooper left the job back in January. (I wonder why Jake White did not apply for the job? He applies for every job advertised across the rugby world.)

They will be hoping that Meyer will be able to pull them out of the mire of 12th position in the Top 14, and a form slump that has seen them lose 6 of their last 7 starts.

Meyer’s credentials are worth repeating. He coached the Springboks to 32 wins and 14 losses, he took the Bulls to Super Rugby glory and also coached Leicester Tigers in England.
