International Rugby 2017 Post Mortem Round 3

I guess I am harping on a bit, but this rugby season seems to be never-ending. Back in January the Southern Hemispherean Super Rugby franchises started playing their “warm-up” games, with the season itself kicking off in February.

Silly Season Tour – Post Mortem Time – Round Two

The second weekend of the Silly Season Rugby Test matches is a thing of the past. And it was another weekend that reinforced my thinking that these end-of-year tours are a burden on the teams and players from the Southern Hemisphere.

Test Match Time! 2017 Rugby International Week 3

Yesterday I read an article by News24 journalist Lloyd Burnard. He was writing about the future of Allister Coetzee as Springbok coach. He believes Allister Coetzee is about to get sacked after two seasons of disappointing Springbok results.

Test Match Time! The Silly Season Tours of 2017 – Week 2

Week Two of the Silly Season looms, and another eight Test matches are lined up for our viewing pleasure (or displeasure, depending on which team you support.) I have been taken to task for calling these November tours and Test matches the “Silly Season Tours”...

Silly Season Tour – Post Mortem Time – Round One

Boy, did I get some of my calls wrong this weekend!!! At least, I got some of the results correct, but almost none of the games panned out the way I had predicted they would.

Super Rugby 2017 – The Final

Super Rugby 2017 Semifinals Post Mortem

It was semi-final time in Christchurch, yet just 15 000 spectators pitched up to watch the game as the Crusaders knocked out the Chiefs. Although the AMI stadium appeared fairly full, it has a capacity of just 20 000, and one would have expected a semi-final to fill all those seats.

Super Rugby 2017 – Semifinals

When I look at this semifinal I see two teams with contrasting game plans. The Crusaders have a power game based on forward dominance, and they can play the ball in close if they have to or want to.

SA Rugby Referee Awards 2017

The SA Rugby Referee's Society held it's annual Pat-Ourselves-On-The-Back Awards ceremony recently. Chairman of the SA Rugby Referees' Society, Steve Meintjes, made presentations to members who had achieved exceptionally.
