Namibia Qualify for Japan!
Those that know me well will know that I have a very soft spot in my heart for Namibia and Namibian Rugby. I spent four wonderful years in that country and was privileged to be involved with rugby in Namibia throughout that time. I have family who live in Namibia, and many friends who call themselves Namibians.
The news, yesterday, of their qualification for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan was as good as any. It made my day!
On Saturday, Namibia defeated Kenya 53-28 in Windhoek to win the Rugby Africa Gold Cup.
Namibia join will New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and the Repechage winner in Pool B for what will be their sixth-successive tournament.
Kenya’s dream of qualifying for their first Rugby World Cup is not over, but they now face the prospect of taking on Canada, Hong Kong and Germany in November’s round-robin Repechage competition in Marseille for the final place.
I have not had the opportunity to watch a recording of the game, but am told that it was a highly-entertaining and high-scoring match. I look forward to watching it soon.
